| How we got started (by Beth Pratt-Sitaula) | home | page2 | |
| During spring of 2002, I visited Nepal for the second time as part of a geologic project sponsored by the Continental Dynamics Program of the USA National Science Foundation. My field assistant and I decided to visit one of the schools in our field area. We received a warm welcome from the headmaster and teachers and spent some time visiting a class. As we looked around the bare stone walls, it was abundantly clear that the school lacked in many of the educational materials that we take for granted in the USA – maps, laboratories, libraries, etc.
That visit got me thinking – not only did I want to bring school supplies back with me on the next visit, but I wanted American students to learn about the rich culture, but vastly different conditions, in this other part of the world. |
