| Armed with a wish list of science supplies written by the Nepali teachers, I decided to make the venture more official. Along with Ajay (my husband) and Steve Keithley (a teacher at Ellwood School in Goleta) we started Oneworld School Project – a California non-profit organization dedicated to bridging cultural differences and improving educational opportunities internationally. We seek particularly to link students of developed and less developed countries. If you are interested in starting an exchange of your own, talk to us. Perhaps we can help.
Our first project was to continue and strengthen the cultural exchange between the American and Nepali schools and collect money and equipment to help the Nepali schools reach their goal of establishing an equipped science program. We held a Nepali dinner and slideshow to raise money and give people the opportunity to learn about Nepali and her culture. We sent out letters to Himalayan geologists and trekkers to Nepal. By April 2004 we had raised $4000 to bring supplies to the schools. | ||
